Carving feeling and curving orgies, edge stability and breathtaking acceleration - the F1 fireballs were amongst the carving tools that were put to the critical test. Seemingly effortless devil-rides are demonstrated by the international elite of the slalom artists on our television sets- waking the quiet desires of Joe Public! Ride like a world champion – in terms of materials – no problem! But take heed – strength and stamina, technique and concentration should at least roughly square up to these weapon-like curve artists otherwise the ‘carving high’ may end in painful sobriety.

Direct power transmission, aggressive and quick edging, astounding running smoothness – in the upper regions of velocity too - and a big helping of bundled aggression characterize the slalom carver of this generation. The crème de la crème of the speed masters and slalom artistes critically put to the test the tapered sides of these curvy tools:

We had the honour of not just one but three Olympic downhill gold medallists  in Zell am See – test director Franz Klammer, World Skitest regular Fritz Strobl and joining for the first time Patrick Ortlieb! Reinfried Herbst, Jan Brolenius, ORF television commentator Hans Knauss, world champion Frank Woerndl and Mr. Ski World Cup Marc Giradelli, together with a squad of dedicated testers intensively scrutinized the requirements and reality of the strongest slalom carvers available in retail today!

The Racetiger certainly lived up to its name! Test ratings ‘very good’ with 39.5, owing to the absolute highest scores on its short turns. It supremely carves in all other categories and its sprightliness makes it captivatingly easy to ride. Not only world champion Frank Woerndl and slalom ace Jan Brolenius especially appreciated the winner’s qualities, but also Olympic toboggan champion Wolfgang Linger awarded the Voelkl the highest marks!

Opinion
Not just pretty but fast too! An opinion shared not only by test director Franz Klammer and ski legend Marc Giradelli. Head builds fast skis; this is categorically demonstrated annually by various athletes in the alpine world cup tour.  Entirely analogous with this proud tradition the Head got the highest scores with 8.3 on long turns, and also scoring high on running smoothness thus easily riding to an impressive 38.7 points!

Supremely well balanced in all categories, with a strong high score of 8.2 on long turns, combined to merit putting the Fischer on the pedestal! Not only successful on the world cup tour but also at the World Skitest! Ski ace Hans Knauss and Russian ski specialist particularly appreciated the impressive combination of agility and running smoothness on the Fischer RC4 Slalom ski!

Opinion
‘Pretty strong!’ was the verdict of ski star Robert Zoller and toboggan Olympic champion Andreas Linger concerning the Atomic SL. Its performance on long and shortnturns was conspicuously striking. An equal performance in all other criteria was the foundation on which it deservedly achieved forth place.

Very, very easy to ride – highest score at 8.3 and absolutely equally strong on long and short turns! A decent piece of ski that will spoil its owner with high running smoothness! Austria’s ‘Mozart of the Mousetrap’ and Olympic champion Fritz Strobl gave an undisputed ‘very good’ for the Salomon! We could not agree more!
