The adventure center of Europe

Looking for an adventure or just want to see others doing it? Chamonix is the European metropolis for outdoor sports and winter.

This photo is taken by Felix St Clair Renard - one of the active professional photografers in Chamonix.

Chamonix is a small town close to the foot of Mount Blanc. It has a nice little town/village center with a lot of concept stores and more or less everything you need with regard to clothing and gear. Chamonix has a couple of different ski areas, but only one that you can reach direct from the town.

Most outdoor brands have their own concept stores...

...but also some of the fashion brands.

The skiing area in Chamonix divided into 4 different systems. Le Brévent, La Flégère , Argentière and Le Tour. From the center there is also a lift up to Aiguille du Midi, which offers you off piste skiing on the glacier. To reach Argentière and Le Tour you need to take the ski bus.

The famous view of Chamonix - Aiguille du Midi.

The "base camp" of Argentière is where the gondola is landing, with a big nice sunny terrace, connections to the skiing area...

...and great food at the self service bar.

The skiing area of Argentière offers a lot of off piste opportunities, but you are not alone. The area look like this after some days without snowfall.

The lift up to Les Grands Montets is not included in the ski pass, but will take you up to 3275 meters and a wonderful view.

Depending on the season and the weather Les Grands Montets offers only off piste or also a prepared skiing area.

After a tour down from Les Grands Montets we recommend a nice dinner. You find this at the restaurant you reach when you take the chair lift up from Argentière and then take to the right.

The skiing area in La Flégère…

...and the lift up from La Trappe in the same area.

The lift station in Le Tour...

...and the skiing area that offers blue and red slopes...

...which are well prepared.

 - Family **---
Le Tour is the area for the family, with the easier ski slopes and some beginner slopes in the village. The lifts in the system is spread out, so there are no central restaurant that works as a base camp for the families.
- Beginner - Intermediate ***--
Le Tour is the area that you find in the end of the valley. It is a good area for practicing. Two small blue pists in the bottom and a couple of long ones up in the mountain.
- Intermediate - Advanced ****-
Le Brévent is placed on walking distance from the center of Chamonix and is also connected to La Flégère. Both are placed on the sunny side and offer a good variety of slopes.
- Advanced - Expert *****
Les Grands Montets is one of the worlds most well known skiing areas. You enter the skiing area from Argentière , which you find between Chamonix and Le Tour. Here are mostly unpisted areas which are wonderful after a snowy night.
- Off piste skiing
Both Les Grands Montets and Aiguille du Midi, which you reach from the center of Chamonix, offers extremely good off piste skiing. The classic Vallée Blanche, which is a whole day trip with guide, starts from the the top of Aiguille du Midi . Most of the other famous off piste tours start at Les Grands Montets.
Nice to know

Chamonix is the starting point for the famous Ski Route between Mount Blanc and Zermatt.
