Things are changing in the southern part of the Alps.
Maribor, known for the women slalom world cup,
is investing in their Adrenalinski Park with new summer
activities. The today's offer with downhill biking, high rope
course, a step summer sledge, paragliding and mountain biking, as
well as horse back riding, hiking and nordic walking gives
everyone what they want.
Maribor does not only have experience in arranging the slalom
world cup, they have also arranged the world cup in downhill. The
latest one in 2002, but they have plans to arrange it again in 2006. |
Downhill
With this knowledge they have built a permanent downhill and
freeride track in 2005, from the to top of the cable car and down
to the ground station. Even if the obstacles are up to four in
parallel, from beginner to expert level, you need to have a real
downhill bike if you should make the track. If you don't have,
bikes and protection gear can be rented at the Bike Park. They do
also offer help from the first mandatory guide tour up to two day
courses.

MTB
The whole mountain is full of small paths, which are perfect
for mountain biking. The major tracks are marked with special
signs and are numbered after the track.
Maps over the biking tracks can be found either by the reception
at hotel Arena or in the cashier (blagajnik) in the finish area of
the slalom pist.
We recommend you to hire a guide when you feel that you would like
to explore the mountain Pohorje with i.e. trips to the old natural
forest and the black lakes.
You can use the cable car to take your bike up to the top or hire
one at the cable car top station. (Bike is called KOLO)

High Rope Park
Just above the hotel Arena, you find the High Rope Park and the
summer sledge.
The High Rope Park can be used for both individual experience as
well as for team building. The park consists of four different
parts:
The Giant Swing. The construction company believes are the
best one in Europe, due to its position where you flies out over
the skiing slope with the whole town below you. It is a special
feeling to be hanging 12 meters up in the air and you make the
decision yourself when you would like to use the release cord and start the
journey. This activity is a must if you visit Maribor.
The other parts of the High Rope Park are the platform, 8 meters
up, from where you transport yourself trough the assault course. The
team building part, where the team needs to work together to
manage the track. And finally the pole, which you climb up, stands
on, turn 180 degrees and then jumps out like a small bungy jump. |

Summer Sledge
The PohorJet (summer sledge) is also a real adrenaline kick.
With a length of more than 1000 meters and a height difference of
250 meters, this one is probably the steepest one in Europe. The
sledge is controlled by a lever to accelerate or brake. With a
good speed it feels like driving a go-cart on a roller coast
track! If you have done this once, there is a big risk of that you
will continue to drive these sledges the rest of the day. But it
is no hurry; they close first at 9 o'clock in the evening. |

activities nothing can be better than taking a swim and a sauna at
the spa in Habakuk, the hotel just below Arena. |

Accommodation
There are many alternatives for your stay in Maribor. If you
would like to live close to the mountain you can try the new
camping that was opened in the end of the summer in 2005. You can
also stay in one of the apartments on the top och the cable car,
which includes both Jacuzzi and sauna, or by hotel Arena or
Habakuk on the foot of the mountain. |
