Glittering St. Johann in Tirol
Ancient timber-fronted inns, balconies ornately carved and walls beautifully frescoed, grace St. Johann in Tirol . Glittering slopes of freshly-groomed snow rise almost to the top of the imposing Kitzbüheler Horn. This is the Tyrol in winter best, crisp sunny days and warm welcoming evenings.
St. Johann in Tirol prides itself on its ski teaching, with 130 instructors, and superb care of beginners. There are six nursery slope lifts, on terrain ideal for novices.
Newcomers soon try blue runs a little higher up- while experienced skiers have a mouthwatering range of slopes from the top of the lift stations an extending the neighbouring village of Oberndorf and the Eichenhof lifts.
Skiing is on the northerly „snowy side“ of the Kitzbüheler Horn, so the 60 kilometres of slopes stay in excellent conditions. As back up, 28 km of runs have snow cannon. A well-planned lift network, including a gondola, means no delays. Skiers are also spoilt for choice with 18 mountain restaurants.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday you can enjoy night-skiing and moonlight-tobogganing. The chair lift will take you up to the Hochfeld station ( 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.) and from here you can toboggan down the well lit 2,5 km toboggan run, which is open until midnight, or ski down the Rueppenhang.
St. Johann also offers 4 covered curling lanes
With a 4-day - St. Johann ski pass you can now use all 55 cable cars & lifts and 170 km of pistes in the Schneewinkel snow regions (St. Johann in Tirol – Oberndorf, Fieberbrunn, St. Ulrich and Hochfilzen, Waidring-Steinplatte, Kössen, Kirchdorf and Erpfendorf) at no extra charge.
Cross-Country skiers have 75 kilometers of beautiful laid out trails.
Other activities include 40 kilometres of winter walking paths, a superbly-equipped leisure centre with indoor pool, indoor tennis courts and an ice-rink.
The accomodation range has something for all budgets – hotels, gasthauses and apartments. The warmth of the welcome is underlined by the numbers who come back each year.
