The holiday region of Disentis-Sedrun lies in the canton of Graubünden, 1130 - 1440 metres above sea level at the source of the Rhine. In the year 700, the foundation stone of the present Benedictine monastery was laid, and the region became famous for the Lukmanier and Oberalp passes. The culture of this region is steeped in Romansh influence, and the approx. 4,000 inhabitants speak its language. Disentis-Sedrun in summer
The mighty river Rhine rises here in Sedrun at the foot of the Oberalp Pass. Sedrun-Disentis is also home to the idyllic Lake Toma and to the start of the bicycle trail along the river Rhine, in which generations of adventurers have greedily panned for gold.
Guests will be amazed at the natural and cultural diversity and all the sports and recreation on offer. In addition to some 350 km of hiking trails, there is also a 9-hole Alpine golf course, the highlight of which is a special shot across the Rhine. So whether it is mountain biking, scootering, paragliding, climbing, riding or tennis you are after, there is no end of fun to be had here.
The region has lots of other hidden treasures too and many of these minerals and gems can be admired in the local museums. Sedrun is also one of the few places where you can witness the progress being made on the world's longest tunnel - the 57-km-long Gotthard Base Tunnel - at first hand.
Disentis-Sedrun in Winter
The Disentis-Sedrun winter sports region really does leave nothing to be desired and offers plenty of variety both on and off piste.
The Gotthard Oberalp Arena in Sedrun and Andermatt has some 130 km of prepared pistes (some with snow cannon) for visiting winter sports enthusiasts. Families will feel especially safe on the extra-wide pistes and there is a fantastic fun park and half pipe promising plenty of fun and excitement for snowboarders too. The main ski area in Sedrun also has a thrilling 3.5-km-long toboggan run.
Disentis has a cable car up to the Caischavedra where there are chair lifts up to an altitude of nearly 3000 m above sea level, meaning that a good covering of snow is guaranteed. With 60 km of pistes, there is something to suit skiers of all abilities. Indeed, Disentis is known to be a paradise for free-riders, tourers and variant skiers of all kinds.
